Optimal Image Sizes for Social Media Platforms in 2025
Every social media platform crops, resizes, and compresses uploaded images differently. Using the recommended dimensions ensures your content looks sharp and professional instead of blurry or awkwardly cropped.
Instagram: Feed posts work best at 1080×1080 pixels (square), 1080×1350 (portrait), or 1080×566 (landscape). Stories and Reels use 1080×1920 (9:16 vertical). Instagram compresses all uploads, so start with the highest quality source.
Facebook: Feed images at 1200×630 pixels for link previews and 2048 pixels wide for photo posts. Cover photos are 851×315 on desktop and 640×360 on mobile — the safe zone for text is the center 560×315 area.
Twitter/X: In-stream photos display at 1600×900 (16:9). Header images are 1500×500. Twitter applies its own compression, so upload at the recommended size to minimize quality loss.
LinkedIn: Personal profile backgrounds use 1584×396. Company cover images are 1128×191. Post images work best at 1200×627 (1.91:1). LinkedIn compresses less aggressively than other platforms.
YouTube: Channel banner is 2560×1440, with the safe area for text and logos in the center 1546×423. Video thumbnails should be 1280×720 (16:9) and under 2 MB.
General tip: Always upload at the platform's recommended dimensions rather than relying on automatic resizing. Use Tooler's Image Converter to batch-resize images to exact dimensions before uploading.
